Motorola Razr 50 Ultra | Unboxing

Hello! Thank you for joining a new video. This time, we have an unboxing of the Motorola Razr 50 Ultra. Let’s get started! This is the new high-end foldable from Motorola. Its launch price in Mexico has been $224,999. On the screen, you see the reference price in dollars to give you an idea, but remember that the prices here are not the same as over there. Join me in unboxing the package to see what’s inside.

For now, it simply reveals that the edition is in Peach Fused color. Immediately, we find the device and some warnings. For example, it tells us not to remove the included screen protector and not to use protectors sold by other manufacturers. In this case, remember that it includes a scent, so it seems like they sprayed it with perfume. Here is part of the unboxing experience that Motorola wants its high-end device users to have, although it feels a bit strange.

Let’s remove this protection, and here is the device. As you can see, it looks very nice with this synthetic leather cover on the back. As I mentioned earlier, it comes in this Peach Fuse color, which is honestly very pleasant, although it doesn’t have the Pantone symbol in this area. But let’s turn on this device while we see what else is in the box. For now, notice that the screen is very large. It practically covers even the smallest area at the bottom.

Let’s see what else is included in the box. As you can see, it includes a USB-C to USB-C cable. Interestingly, as Motorola often does with other devices, the included charger is more powerful than the supported charge. That is, it comes with a 68W charger, although the device actually supports 45W charging. But in this case, we’re talking about the power delivery protocol, so you can probably use other chargers. The important thing here is that it includes a charger in the box, so you don’t have to buy it separately, which puts it ahead of the competition at Samsung.

Let’s see what else is in the box, because believe it or not, there is more content on the other side of the box. In this case, they include a case, which is also quite good. So the box comes as one would generally expect high-end device boxes to come. But interestingly, we are now getting used to high-end boxes being extremely small and simple. However, Motorola has not joined that trend, and that’s something I really liked. In fact, I also like that the case comes in the same color as the device, so it’s not just a simple transparent case, but it also has a nice design. Although it doesn’t include the same synthetic leather finish that we see on the original cover of the device, it will still provide a good level of protection.

By the way, like many other foldable cases, it comes with some adhesives to keep the case attached to the device because sometimes it might come off, especially the part that protects the half with the external screen. Since it’s a very thin case, it could fall off more easily, so that’s why it comes with these stickers for you to place it. But notice how it would look in this case if you add a significant color frame to this area, which personally I don’t like that much since you can see that the device without the case has curves in this part that also give a lot of elegance to the foldable device. But well, it’s up to you as a user, as always, whether you want to prioritize aesthetics or protection.

Also, note that it will come with the usual documentation, which is a bit hidden but available here. Additionally, of course, we will also have the tool to extract the SIM card tray. So basically, that’s everything included in this box. Now let me just put everything back in the box and we’ll focus on the Motorola Razr 50 Ultra.

Alright, I have the device ready here in my hand so we can go through its specifications one by one. Let’s get started. It is 7.9 mm thick and weighs 189 grams. The external screen is spectacular: 4 inches with OLED technology, a 165 Hz refresh rate, 10 bits, and a peak brightness of 2400 nits. It is practically a high-end screen but on the external cover, which is something very good and undoubtedly one of its most attractive points. Additionally, it is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus, so I insist that it is an excellent screen. In fact, I love that it has very thin bezels. Notice how they really make use of a large part of the front, and without a doubt, this is one of its strongest points.

The internal screen has a diagonal of 6.9 inches with full HD resolution, a 165 Hz refresh rate, and a peak brightness of 3000 nits. So both screens are definitely extraordinary, one of the strongest points. Of course, it has stereo sound, although it doesn’t have a headphone jack. The front camera is 32 megapixels with an F aperture. As usual, here I have a preview before taking the photo so you can see the backlight environment I was in, and obviously it doesn’t have a well-optimized preview, but after taking the photo, notice how all the content that was completely blown out appears. So it does a good job balancing light and shadows and maintains a good level of detail. Although you know, you could also take selfies using the camera system on the back. So this would be the result with that camera. It definitely greatly improves the level of detail and white balance, making it a very good way to take selfies.

The main camera is 50 megapixels with an F1.7 aperture and optical stabilization. And pay attention to the secondary camera because it is not ultra-wide; it is now a telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom. It also offers 4x optical quality and is also 50 megapixels with an F aperture. So this camera will be able to capture very good portraits and improves one of the weak points that vertical foldables had, which is the zoom, although it obviously sacrifices the ultra-wide camera. So from my point of view, it would have been very interesting to see a combination that I haven’t seen in any other device, incorporating an ultra-wide camera with a high-resolution sensor to offer you a crop and give you the perspective of the main camera, and then the telephoto camera with 2x zoom. So far, I haven’t seen any manufacturer incorporate that combination. It would be very interesting to see it in a foldable device to maintain the ultra-wide perspective, keep the main perspective, and give you more zoom capabilities with just two cameras.

But definitely, if you’re interested in zoom, this device has great capabilities. This is the photo at 1x. Below, you are seeing the photograph with 2x zoom, where we evidently find optical quality, and it is a photograph that looks exceptionally good. This is a photograph with 4x zoom, and definitely, for a vertical foldable, it offers remarkable quality. Now you are viewing the photograph with 10x digital zoom, and it still shows a good result. Obviously, in some areas, the level of detail is not as high as traditional flagship devices, but for a vertically foldable device, I think the zoom has improved a lot. It reaches a maximum of 30x where the quality is still good.

By the way, you could also take portrait photos with this rear system. And notice that if it keeps the foreground objects in focus, then I insist that the portrait mode is going to be very good on this device. Additionally, notice that it gives us access to different focal lengths. For example, we have 24 mm, which would be a traditional perspective, 35 mm, which gives us a slightly telephoto lens perspective, 50 mm, which would be the ideal perspective for portraits, but it also allows us to go up to 85 mm. So we have very good portrait settings all thanks to the incorporation of the telephoto camera.

For video recording, note that it will have the capability to record in 4K, and you can even enable 60 frames per second. However, it curiously indicates that the zoom is limited with this setting. Interestingly, when resetting the configuration to 30 frames per second, it still has the same zoom range, which is a bit strange, but those are the capabilities. It can also record video with HDR.

This device includes a 4,000 milliamp battery with support for 45W charging. I think the battery capacity is good considering it’s a vertically foldable device. It’s not spectacular, but remember that in this type of device, the battery is usually always compromised. This generation already has the IPX8 level of water resistance, so even if it falls and gets submerged, it has a very high chance of surviving. This is one of the most important improvements of this generation, which undoubtedly makes it an even more attractive foldable.

It incorporates a fingerprint reader on the side, and remember that through the external screen, you can open basically any application you want. Of course, it comes with Android 14, which introduces some new artificial intelligence features that I will tell you about in the review. It comes with 512 GB of storage, although right after turning it on, it already showed 36 GB used, which seems a bit excessive to me. It has 12 GB of RAM, and its processor is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. The processor is definitely not the most powerful one available today, but its performance would be very similar to that of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

If you’re interested in benchmarks, note that on Geekbench it scored 176 points in single-core, 4,230 points in multi-core, and on AnTuTu it was very close to reaching 1 million points. Of course, these are just reference numbers because we will see the real
